Alan Cook, President of Lucky Litter LLC and Inventor of ScoopFree

Alan J. Cook is the founder and President of Lucky Litter LLC and the inventor of ScoopFree, a self-cleaning litter box you can leave alone for weeks at a time, which provides unprecedented levels of litter box odor control, convenience and reliability.

Mr. Cook has fifteen years experience developing and commercializing new products.

Prior to creating ScoopFree, he developed Quiet Care for the Living Independently Group. Quiet Care is a health security system for seniors living alone. Tyco International (NYSE: TYC) distributes Quiet Care to consumers through its ADT Security Service subsidiary, and Quiet Care is used by leading heath care institutions and geriatric social services agencies.

Previously, Mr. Cook co-founded ActivityOne.com and led business development efforts for two venture capital backed startups: Infonautics (NASDAQ: INFO) and Prima Facie (acquired by Safety Vision).

He was also an Analyst with the strategy consulting firm Marakon Associates.

Mr. Cook graduated from the five-year Management and Technology dual-degree program at the Wharton School of Business and the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned a BSE in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Economics with concentrations in Finance and Management.

Alan completed the Chicago Marathon, and he enjoys swimming and yoga. His cat, Lucky, is a former track star who stays in shape by vaulting over living room furniture.

THE PRODUCT

ScoopFree is a self-cleaning litter box you can leave alone for weeks at a time, which provides unprecedented levels of litter box odor control, convenience and reliability.

The ScoopFree self-cleaning litter box uses the world's first disposable kitty litter tray cartridges, and Lucky Litter LLC has an exclusive license with the Clorox Company (NYSE: CLX) to use its Fresh Step® Crystal litter in its disposable litter trays.

ScoopFree is maintenance-free and hands-off between litter tray changes, so cat owners can skip cleaning their cat’s litter box for weeks at a time. You just replace the disposable litter tray once every few weeks and that's it.

ScoopFree consistently receives the highest consumers ratings on the websites of Amazon.com, Target.com, Petsmart.com and Petco.com. In ScoopFree’s first year on the market, the CBS Early Show featured ScoopFree on national TV as one of their favorite new products at the Global Pet Expo. Animal Planet placed ScoopFree inside the Meow Mix House, the first reality TV show for cats. Cat Fancy Magazine highlighted ScoopFree as a Trendy New Product. ScoopFree was even “Top Pick” of Animal Radio’s Litterpalooza, and Maxim Radio said ScoopFree is a godsend. Thousands of cat lovers everywhere rave ScoopFree is great for their cats and great for them, too!

THE STORY

ScoopFree, is a self-cleaning litter box you can leave alone for weeks at a time, which provides unprecedented levels of litter box odor control, convenience and reliability.

ScoopFree was born out when Alan walked by a smelly litter box at 4am just a few days after Christmas 2001. Approximately four years passed between the Eureka moment and commercialization: he researched the market throughout 2002; developed proof of concepts in 2003; redesigned the product during 2004; and began production in 2005.

ScoopFree established regional distribution with Petsmart and Petco stores in 2006. Amazon.com, Target.com and pet stores across the country sell ScoopFree, too.

Petsmart and Petco expanded ScoopFree nationally in 2007. A senior merchandiser from Petsmart and the former CEO of Wal*Mart Stores recently joined the Company’s Board of Directors, and the first ScoopFree litter boxes have been sold into Europe and Asia.
