Students practice their idea pitches in preparation for PennVention
October 22, 2008 (Philadelphia, PA) - The Weiss Tech House, a student-run hub of technological innovation at the University of Pennsylvania, hosted an elevator pitch workshop to improve and enhance students’ pitching skills in preparation for the annual PennVention inventor’s competition. Meltwater Group representatives, including a principal in Meltwater's corporate investment arm, were present to help students shape their own elevator pitches. The experience was also a great opportunity for students to prepare their ideas for the Meltwater Scholarship, “What Would You Do With $30,000?” The workshop took place at 7pm on October 21st at the Weiss Tech House.
Meltwater Group was founded in Norway in 2001 with a starting capital of only $15,000 USD, and is now made up of 42 offices worldwide. Meltwater provides software solutions to over 12,000 clients globally and is the #1 player in its specialty in the world, with rapidly expanding operations in North & South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. Meltwater News is the first product division of the Meltwater Group. A global specialist in online media monitoring, Meltwater News delivers business-critical information and real-time intelligence on clients' media exposure, competitors, industry trends, and any other subject clients want to track in over 70,000 publications, over 6,000 blogs and over 60 languages globally. “The event was a great opportunity for students to hear first-hand why it is important to understand your business and articulate it to others in a short period of time,” said Anne Stamer, Director of The Weiss Tech House. “The amazing turn-out only increased the enthusiasm that walks our hallways every day.”
Meltwater Group was also proud to sponsor the Social Innovation award at last year's PennVention competition, in which Weiss Tech House student innovator, Jason Halpern, was awarded a prize to get his business idea started. Halpern also qualified for entry into the Meltwater Scholarship.
