<p>Come listen to Dr. David Issadore, Assistant Professor of Bioengineering, discuss his work in medical diagnostics. Dr. Issadore has been applying his knowledge in physics and electrical engineering to make advancements in the field of medicine. His work focuses on the d</p>
<div>evelopment of advanced diagnostic devices that detect bacterial diseases and cancer. These devices are cheaper, automated, portable, and more sensitive than those used today and can be used in third-world countries. In the past, he has created hybrid microfluidic chips and a portable Nuclear Magnetic Resonance system used to detect tuberculosis. Dr. Issadore offers a unique perspective on idea formation and innovation in a collaborative research setting.Wednesday, 7-8pm, Huntsman F65:The Weiss Tech House and Penn International Sustainability Association will be co-hosting a panel on the Innovation behind Clean Technology. Come discuss with our panelists to learn more about how you can be involved in innovation through clean technology in the Penn community. <p>The Weiss Tech House is looking for a lead web developer to work on the main websites the WTH hosts. This position is a perfect opportunity for people who want to work on projects that go live immediately. <p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Maintain all the websites that have been developed at the Weiss Tech House</li>
<li>Add new and/or edit existing features of the current websites</li>
<li>Work on new projects if necessary</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Minimum skills:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Good knowledge of PHP and HTML</li>
<li>Being able to upload files to a server as well as edit them</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Applicants with any of the following skills will be preferred:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Familiarity with CakePHP and/or Django</li>
<li>Being able to use version control systems like Subversion or Git</li>
<li>Familiarity with databases, in particular MySQL</li>
<li>Experience with Javascript, jQuery and/or Ajax</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Pay rate: </strong><em>($9.40 &#8211; $12.80)</em> depending on the skills, Work study preferred but not mandatory. If you are an international student, you must have the correct working papers and documents in place.</p>

<p>Within the &#8216;main application&#8217; form there are detailed instructions on how to complete the full application process. If you have any further questions please contact the Innovation Fund Chair at <a href="mailto:apply.innovationfund@gmail.com">apply.innovationfund@gmail.com</a></p>
<p>If your project is selected, an Innovation Fund Committee member will become your project manager, and will act as your liaison to the rest of the Committee. If he feels that you are ready to present your idea in front of the committee, he will prepare you for a formal 10-minute pitch followed by a 10-minute Questions &amp; Answers session. Accepted teams will receive a $1,000 grant and will have access to the Tech House&#8217;s technical, legal, and business mentoring <a href="http://www.tech-house.upenn.edu/django/programs_and_resources/innovation_fund/info/use_of_funds/">resources</a>. Teams that are not accepted to the Innovation Fund will have the opportunity to pitch again during the following semester.</p>
<p>Certain accepted teams which need additional resources can apply for an additional $4,000 in funding. The Innovation Fund will only award one grant of additional funding per semester. Interested teams should contact their project managers for more information.</p>

This is awarded to the most commercially promising invention that involves a database-driven product.</p>

<p><strong>Design Circle Inc, Design for Manufacture Award:</strong> $3,000: This award is given out base on how well the product lends itself to overseas manufacturing, requires assembly labor, price sensitivity and forecasts high manufacturing volumes. Additional criteria includes a clearly defined market, providing a novel solution to an existing need, creating demand for a new one and a plan for commercialization.</p>

<p><strong>Bresslergroup Best Product Concept Award:</strong> $2500 in professional services used at the winner&#8217;s discretion towards research, concept development or CAD modeling in the development of their product for production.</p>

<p><strong>QVC Consumer Innovation Award:</strong> $1,500 cash prize and one-hour meeting with the QVC Buyer for winner&#8217;s product category.</p>

<p><strong>The APAC Chemical Corporation Award:</strong> $1000: This award recognizes those individuals who rise above and beyond to make a meaningful impact on the environment.</p>

<p><strong>Tapper Innovation Connect Award:</strong> The award includes a round trip plane ticket to London, England, $1000 cash for expenses, and a two-night stay in a business class hotel. A privative meeting is also part of the trip to discuss winner&#8217;s idea and network with the Chief Technical Officer and SVP of Open Innovation of Unilever.</p>

<p><strong>Lowenstein Sandler PC Legal Mentor Award:</strong> Five (5) hours of free legal services and advice from Lowenstein Sandler PC regarding intellectual property, contract review and/or choice of entity/corporate formation issues.</p>

<p><strong>Social Innovation Prize:</strong> $500 cash awarded to the best social innovation that follows the following criteria: an entrepreneur with an innovative idea, idea is a financially sustainable venture, product, or business idea. <p>U + Capital (U+C) allows students to fund their college education by taking out loans with equity-like repayment schedules. In these vehicles, called Personal Equity Issuances (PEIs), U+C funds a student in exchange for a percentage of the student&#8217;s income for a fixed time after graduation. U+C will invest in PEIs through PEI Funds which will be capitalized by socially conscious investors.</p>

<p>Page turning is a major inconvenience for all musicians. UTurn is a page turner that imitates a human assistant. It allows musicians to use their existing printed-page music scores without pre-loading them page-by-page, and supports forward and backwards turning.</p>

<p>eCheck is the first electronic point-of-sale device designed around consumer interactions. The device synchronizes with the restaurants billing system and allows a party to simply, Pick what they ordered, Pay with their card and the Pass the device to the next person until all the items are accounted for.</p>
